What Is InBody Testing and Why Should You Care About Your Body Composition?

Step on a regular scale and all you get is a number. It doesn't tell you how much of that weight is fat, how much is muscle, or whether what you're doing in the gym is actually working. That's where InBody testing comes in.

At CrossFit Valley Center, we use an InBody scanner to give our members a clear, accurate picture of what's going on inside their body. Here's what that actually means and why it matters.

What does an InBody scan measure?

The scan uses bioelectrical impedance to analyze your body composition in just a few minutes. No needles, no discomfort. You walk away with a detailed breakdown of:

  • Body fat percentage

  • Muscle mass by segment (arms, legs, trunk)

  • Visceral fat levels

  • Total body water

  • Basal metabolic rate

It's the kind of data that makes your fitness goals a lot less guesswork and a lot more actionable.

Why does body composition matter more than weight?

Two people can weigh exactly the same and look and feel completely different. One might have a high percentage of body fat, the other mostly muscle. The scale can't tell you which one you are. Body composition can.

It also means you can be making real progress and never know it. Losing fat while gaining muscle often shows up as little change on the scale. An InBody scan shows you what's actually happening.
